Journal #4 - Chapters 9-11 - Perspective: Calpurnia

Dear diary,
So far things are weird and confusing, today Scout got in a fight because some one was making fun of her father Atticus. A girl name Cecil said that her father is a "nigger defender." I think that is really offenceve knowing I'm black too. So Scout starting beating on Cecil and getting into more drama then she already was in. Her father Atticus talked too Scout about how he was assigned Tom Robinson and hes going to defend him for sign of respect and so he can show he is a good lawyer.

Later that day Scout and Jem's uncle Jack comes to visit for a couple of days. So when her uncle Jack gets here Scout starts cuss in front of him. After they finish eating her uncle Jack makes her sit on his lap and they start to have a long talk. They talk about how she should not cuss because its bad. While they talk about that he mostly just asks her to not curse in his presence.

The next day they go up to her cousins house Alexandra and Scout don't really like that because she thinks that Francis is hard to stay with and she don't like how Alexandra always tell her to start dressing like a real girl. Sense Scout is a tom boy she just ignores her like she always does.

One night Francis told Scout that Dill is runt and that her father Atticus is a "nigger - lover." When scout herd of that she got really mad so she starts to curse Francis out and beats him up. I personally say I'm proud of her. So Francis told Alexandra and uncle Jack and told them that Scout hit him. Without hearing Scout side uncle Jack spanks her. So she tells uncle Jack what really happened and he was pissed. But Scout makes him promise not to tell Atticus, however, because Atticus had asked her not to fight anyone over what is said about him. Jack promises and keeps his word.

I Scout was told a really important saying wich was "Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy . . . but sing their hearts out for us. That's why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." and fromt that Scout learned alot more than she thought she would have.

On the way home Jem is told to act like a gentlemen like he should be because mrs. Dubose is a sick mean old lady. She screams at Jem and Scout alot and thats why the kids dont like her.
one day she told Jem and Scout that Atticus is not any better than the “niggers and trash he works for,” and Jem loses his temper.
Well thats it for now so talk to you later
